Mount Robson
Border Debate
Interim Results
Some time ago we pondered whether Mount Robson was actually in British Columbia or
Alberta (See original debate). Quite few people completed the
survey and some offered some interested comments. Some even made trade offers in response
to the suggestion that BC trade Fort Saint John and Fort Nelson for Banff and Jasper.
According to the poll, Mount Robson is in British Columbia according to 70% of the
population (accurate plus or minus 30%, two times out of three - or whatever). Sweden,
Montana, and Vermont each got some votes.
Here is a sampling of the comments:
- The provincial border in that area follows the continental divide which
clearly put Mount Robson within BC.
- I love Alberta. But as a Mount Robson resident, I like the Idea of it
staying just the way it is, as Jasper being an Albertan town has boosted its Park entrance
fees so much that tourists Are very upset with this . There is no entrance. Fee to Mount
Robson.
- [Suggested Sweden] I have seen the mountain once,a clear day able to see
the entire summit cloudless. The beauty of the sight made it uninportant however it was
situated in British Columbia, in Alberta or New Foundland. The mountain is there for
everyone to see anyway, so i personally dont think it matter that much. The main
thing must be whether it is situated in Canada or not(?)
- I´m from Mexico City, and your country is beautiful, but your state is
the best in THE WORLD. Keep it this way, please. I visited Vancouver and Whistler, and
Vancouver Island, and everything is beautiful and green.
- After spending some time in both provinces I have to say Alberta has it -
sorry BC!
- [Suggesting Montana] Hey I like that last option (Montana) but we could
never accept your generous offer without giving you something in return. How 'bout Detroit
and Buffalo? Fair trade?
- I think putting Banff and Jaspar in Montana would be a fair
way to settle your dispute.
- Since when was Montana in Canada!
[Note that although I'm from a neutral location, I have relatives living in BC.] It would
be nice if BC grabbed the whole of the Rockies, but I guess it doesn't *really* matter.
:-)
- I think the Rockies are in the perfect place. Melissa. (age 9)
- Alberta is flat...BC is not...everyone knows that .....Why should Alberta
have anything except flatness?
[Editor's note - I was in Alberta for a family reunion when this one arrived -
perfect!]
- Rockies: Montana, Rockies_other: Vermont
Looks like a hard climb.
- [Suggesting Alberta] It's about all they've got. Let them have it.
- It would be very simplistic to ever think BC would get Jasper and Banff,
since the issue would end up in the supreme court of Canada for my entire lifetime, and
whomever thought up this issue should be re-educated, since it is known throughout the
world that Jasper & Banff in Alberta, and mostly until the control of the federal
government.
