Exploring Libraries Home PageLibrarians PageLibrarians

Librarians are the most important and perhaps the most overlooked resource of a modern library.

A librarian is a well-trained professional that has spent years mastering how library resources are stored, categorized, indexed, and used. Librarians may come in many varieties:

  • General Librarians
  • Reference Librarians
  • Special Collections Librarians
  • Research Specialists
  • Archiving Specialists

A good librarian can be invaluable in the following areas:

  • Locating Resources
  • Providing Tours
  • Assisting with Research
  • Locating resources at other libraries
  • Teaching
  • Researching

I cannot stress enough how much time and effort can be saved by consulting with your librarians. And most librarians are very glad to be of assistance.
