Here is a meditation that I learned from Deepak Chopra
that seems to be fairly universal:
- Wherever you are, relax your mind and body
- Breath out, thinking or saying the word "PEACE"
- Allow a silence at the end of the word
- Breath in calmly
- Repeat twice more, allowing a calm inner and outer silence at
the end of each word
- Breath out, thinking or saying the word "HARMONY"
- Allow a silence at the end of the word
- Breath in calmly
- Repeat twice more
- Breath out, thinking or saying the word "LAUGHTER"
- Allow a silence at the end of the word
- Breath in calmly
- Repeat twice more
- Breath out, thinking or saying the word "LOVE"
- Allow a silence at the end of the word
- Breath in calmly
- Repeat twice more
You can substitute words of your choice, but PEACE, HARMONY,
LAUGHTER, and LOVE seem to be nice thoughts to wish for yourself and for
others. Much of the connection with your true self comes in the
silence between the words.
Here are few place where you may want to practice this meditation:
- When walking through nature or through city streets.
- When doing repetitive physical exercises. The pattern of
twelve phrases and calm breathing work well with physical training.
- When approaching a stressful situation, such as a business
presentation or possible confrontation with loved ones. The
meditation can help you achieve a greater calm and clarity that can
help you create a positive outcome.
